Dan. Chp. 8
Isa46:9Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,
10Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:
In Chapter 2 – description, chp. 7 detailed, in chapter 8 he identifies.
V 1 Time period –
In the 3rd year of the reign of Belshazzar
2 years after chp. 7, right before chp. 6
About 551 B.C. and Daniel is an official in the empire, he is about 69 years old.
He has another vision.
V 2
In Sushan the city of the province of Elam.
Elam – east of Babylon, in the mountains of Media, along side the Persian gulf.
Sushan was the capital of Elam.
Along the river Ulai which is now called Karun river. He finds himself in a vision along this river.
It was a special place for Daniel.
What did Daniel see?
v 3-4
He sees Ram
The Ram has two horns
One of the horn is higher
The higher one comes up last.
Pushed in all directions, did his will
He sees a He Goat v 5
Came from the West
The whole earth
Notable Horn
Touched not the ground
V 6 - 7
1. Stood before him
2. Ran into him with fury
3. Choler – bitterness
4. Broke the two horns
The goat became strong v8 - 12
He was strong until the great horn was broken.
It was broken into 4 notable horns
Out of the four, came a little horn.
The little horn became great towards all even the pleasant land – Palestine or Israel.
He will cast down stars, bring abomination.
Daniel’s reaction: sought for the meaning v 13 - 19
The one with the appearance of a man.
It was Gabriel – the arc angel of God, he gives the interpretation of the vision.
Understand the time of the end is part of the vision.
What does all this mean – extension of chapter 7. God identifies in this chapter.
V 20 Who is the ram –
Two Horns – 2 Kings of Media and Persia
Higher one came up
North –Lydia, South –
Egypt, West – Babylon
They did according to
Their will
Who is the He Goat –
V 21 – Greece
West – direction from
Persia
The whole earth – mankind
Touched not the ground – fast
Notable horn – Alexander the Great
Fury of his power and choler – bitterness, there was extreme hatred between the two.
The Great horn is broken – Alexander died at a young age of 33
V 22-Four horns took his place – Cassander – Greece, Lysimacus – Asia Minor, Selecus – Syria, Ptolemy – Egypt. Not in his power.
These four were all conquered by the Romans.
These four areas including Greece, Turkey, Syria, and Egypt will be part of the 10 regions of Daniel chapter 7.
The unfulfilled part of the vision: v 19 the end refers to the end of the age with the return of Christ to set up his kingdom.
The little horn: Who is he? V 23
v 9 He is a king with a fierce countenance, understands the dark things, comes at a time when transgressors –
Where will he come from? Out of the four, the four horns. Greece, Turkey, Syria, and Egypt.
Who is this little horn? All things are working in the world.
1. The same in other scriptures – chp. 7 v8, 20, 25 with Rev. 17 and Rev. 13.
In Dan. 7, he will come out of the 10 countries of the old Roman Empire, coalition that has great influence, and will receive all power on the earth.
Now God gives us some more detail on this future ruler.
These 10 represents 10 kingdoms that come from the remnants of the old Roman Empire in the last days.
Application: it will take
How do I know
1. 2. 3. 4.
2. V 9 He will have power over the North, East, South, and West – even over Israel.
3. v 24 – He will have mighty power, not by his hand, but God has given this time, and he gets his power from Satan during tribulation.
4. V 10 – he will cast down some of the stars – this is a reference to the people of Abraham.
5. He will set himself up as the prince of the host. This refers to the High priest. In Revelation 17, we find that the Antichrist will destroy the one world religion in the last 31/2 years. One world religion honoring him as a god.
6. v 25 through his police – economics, and by his peace – diplomacy. He will bring an answer to all the problems. A peace treaty that he will not honor with Israel in the last 3 ½ years.
7. v 11 – 12 - He will break the treaty with Israel, and in the last 3 ½ years, he will stop the sacrifice in the temple of God, and set up his image to be worshiped.
8. v 25 -After he is the one ruler, after he is worshiped, after he has all power, he will set his face to God, and will exalt himself above Jesus.
9. This will be his end, for then Jesus shall return.
The effect on Daniel – v 26 – 27
Shut up – it will be a long time before it is fulfilled.
No one will be able to understand now, for it was the future of the Kingdoms, and then the future of the world at the end.
What does this say to me?
1. The word of God is truth
2. God is 100 % right on all prophecies.
3. Jesus came, died, he rose again for our salvation.
4. Jesus is coming back to rapture
5. The tribulation and Anti-christ is real.
6. Jesus will come back and set up his throne.
